Exploring Austin Libraries!

A man, his bike, and his laptop working remote at different libraries in Austin, TX

Closest to home! Lots of semi-private tables for working next to big windows. Old and friendly.

5500 Menchaca Road

Menchaca Branch - APL

Modern, yet quaint. Bold colors, and a nice outdoor area. Personal desks facing a big window!

211 E. William Cannon Drive

Pleasant Hill Branch - APL

My Friday Library! Always a community puzzle out, lovely back patio, amazing interior design, and close to lots of good food!

1800 S. Fifth Street

Twin Oaks Branch - APL

Smaller library, separate room for working, not a lot of options in main room.

5125 Convict Hill Road

Hampton Branch - APL

I biked here on a cold, wet day and arrived at a clean and quaint library. Single work area, not a lot of outlets.

5803 Nuckols Crossing Road

Southeast Branch - APL

Way out east, larger library with a passport office! Named after Daniel Ruiz, who contributed to the upward mobility of Mexican-Americans in east Austin.

1600 Grove Blvd.

Ruiz Branch - APL

Strong smells of smoked substances. Go east young man.

651 N. Pleasant Valley Road

Cepeda Branch - APL

The first branch in the Austin library system. Recognizes impact of African American leaders in Austin. Named after George Washington Carver.

1161 Angelina Street

Carver Branch - APL

Newly remodeled, plenty of tables for working, private study rooms, and a skylight.

1105 E. César Chávez Street

Terrazas Branch - APL

The big kahuna, if you will. Even if you won’t, come explore the largest of the Austin Public Library system. I sat at the outdoor reading patio overlooking the lake.

710 West Cesar Chavez Street

Central Library - APL

Legislative Library of the Texas State Capitol. Had the whole place to myself! Wooden creaky chairs and a bluebonnet exhibit.

1100 Congress Avenue

Legislative Reference Library

Exploring Austin Parks!

A man and his bike enjoying public parks in Austin, TX

Picnic tables, public pool, and a playground. A quiet little park with a nice open field. I ate two barbacoa tacos from Taqueria Morales on a bench here as the sun began to set. There's a little bridge that crosses the creek to access the neighborhood to the south. I like that bridge.

1009 West Dittmar Road

Dittmar Neighborhood Park

"Nothing in the world
is as soft and yielding as water.
Yet for dissolving the hard and inflexible,
nothing can surpass it." - Lao Tzu

Lots of dogs. Peaceful.

7609 Longview Road

Longview Neighborhood Park

Huge park. Options for so many activities.

907 West Slaughter Lane

Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park

The trees here are really nice. So many slacklining possibilities. I saw a man with his two daughters dumpster diving. They were singing and laughing.

6001 Menchaca Road

Garrison Park

The closest park to my house! No one else was here. Positivity on the ground and in the trees. Be kind to everyone.

910 Armadillo Road

Armadillo Neighborhood Park

A solid park! Good game of basketball going on, families on the playground, people walking their dogs. Some nice trees and decent grass too.

"Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild"

121 Sheraton Avenue

Battle Bend Neighborhood Park

A small park. A quiet park. An empty park. Not a squirrel I did see. Great for sitting and enjoying the day to yourself.

3403 Silk Oak Drive

Cherry Creek Neighborhood Park

There are two playgrounds here on opposite ends, not connected by any path. The sand volleyball court has been reclaimed by the Earth. Two giant trees stand close together in the center of a circular ditch. It's truly a spectacle to witness their greatness, especially as the sun sets behind them.

3204 Silk Oak Drive

Silk Oak Neighborhood Park

Skate park with guys playing punk rock out of a prius with all the doors open, wearing the most contagious smiles when they landed a trick. But it's oh so much more than that. What does Mabel Davis have to show you?

3427 Parker Lane

Mabel Davis District Park

Gillis has a lot to offer, but even on a perfect day, it wasn't being put to use. I swung on the swings and traveled back in time.

2410 Durwood Street

Gillis Neighborhood Park

Lots of tennis courts and people playing tennis on them. A gravel trail encircles the entire complex. I envisioned hammocking where the trees are dense and cover the ground in complete shade.

1100 Cumberland Road

South Austin Neighborhood Park

Home to one of the few public pools in Austin open year-round. The area outside has beautiful, tall trees on a gentle slope, prime for hammocking in the shade. I hung out here for a nice read.

700 E Live Oak

Big Stacy Neighborhood Park

If you follow Blunn Creek north from Big Stacy, you'll find this pleasant surprise of a park! Plenty of options for activities here. Mark my words, I will return to this park.

1500 Alameda Drive

Little Stacy Neighborhood Park

A playground, a sculpture, a splash pad oh my! A wide creek flows behind. Across the street, a man was playing acoustic guitar in his front yard.

"Corazon de Oro"

2006 S 6th Street

Ricky Guerrero Neighborhood Park

Home to a beautiful, wide, woodeded walkway.

614 W Gibson Street

Nicholas Dawson Neighborhood Park

A well endowed park. Come work up a sweat, and have the time of your life. Heck, bring the kids, they can enjoy this beauty too.

8011 Beckett Road

Dick Nichols District Park

A park I had never been to, that managed to reconnect me with numerous delightful memories.

“Walking the path helps balance the mind and body, encourages a peaceful state, and reconnects the whole being with the rhythms of nature.”

2811 Aftonshire Way

Greenbriar Park

Tanglewood Forest, such a fantastical name for a park. The lamp post in the middle reminded me of Narnia. The crape myrtles here are so lovely! Looking up from under them brings peace and inspires awe.

9801 Curlew Drive

Tanglewood Forest Park

Fields on fields on fields, brother. A hub of outdoor sport and activity. A rustic feel, relaxed and tucked away from the big city.

6301 W Slaughter Lane

Circle C Ranch Metropolitan Park

Dedicated to Michael Butler, whose bricks helped to build the City of Austin for decades. Home to an amazing view of Austin's ever changing skyline.

"You just can't live in Texas if ya don't have a lot of soul."

1000 Barton Springs Road

Butler Metro Park

The crown jewel of Austin. The great lawn. Offering grounds for endless festivities for over 100 years.

2100 Barton Springs Road

Zilker Park
